Are You Willing To Get Better? 🤔 A Reflection with Journal Prompts.

Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in our own world. Our never-ending to-do lists and obligations. Where is there room for self-growth? How does one find growth in the day to day? How do you get help?

For me, there are two things that allowed me to grow. One was find good supportive help. The other was that it’s in the day-to-day where the biggest growth happens. One day you look back and see how far you’ve come and don’t really think you did anything, because the small changes are almost unnoticeable once they become a part of your routine. Then the sub grouping of that would be to know that those small, seemingly, insignificant changes are your biggest accomplishments.

The hardest part is finding what change you need, then making that first step. The steps therein after become easier. The consistency is the next hardest part. Sticking to it when you want to quiet or need a break. Breaks are great, but don’t let it fool you into not coming back. Just like a vacation, your break needs to end at some point.

This is where I come in. All my life the underlying theme of who I am, and who I was meant to be was a supportive, empathetic person. I went to school for psychology because I wanted to help people. My main programming is helping others. That’s why I decided on life coaching, because people who seek support and guidance want to get better and are making a real effort to build themselves. Therapy never worked for me until I made the decision to get better.

It’s not all about the therapist, it’s about your willingness to get better, your willingness to be open and receptive to help, not just going and checking a box absentmindedly.

Have you made the decision to get better?

Here are some deep and reflective journal prompts designed to help you explore whether you’re ready and willing to make the decision to get better, emotionally, mentally, physically, or all of the above. These prompts balance self-compassion with honest introspection:

🌀 Journal Prompts:

  1. What does “getting better” look like for me right now?
(Define what healing or improvement means for you in this moment, emotionally, physically, mentally.)
  2. What am I afraid might change if I start getting better?
(Be honest. Sometimes we fear who we’ll become without our struggles.)
  3. What do I gain from staying where I am right now? What do I lose?
(Explore the comfort or identity that might be tied to your current state.)
  4. Do I believe I deserve to feel better? Why or why not?
  5. What would I tell a loved one who felt the way I do?
(Use this to reflect on how kind—or unkind—you are to yourself.)
  6. Is there a part of me that doesn’t want to heal yet? What does that part need? (Keep in mind that you are not require to ‘fix’ everything to get started. Don’t let this overwhelm you.)
  7. What would making the decision to heal look like in action, not just words?
(List small changes, behaviors, or boundaries.)
  8. What am I grieving or letting go of if I move forward?
(Sometimes the past or pain becomes part of our identity.)
  9. Am I waiting for permission, motivation, or a sign to start healing? Can I give myself that permission now?
  10. If I knew healing was a slow, nonlinear process, would I still choose it? Why or why not?
  11. What are three things I’m afraid of losing if I change—and three I might gain?
  12. Who would I be without my wounds or my current struggles? Does that idea scare me or excite me?
  13. What has kept me going so far, even on the hard days?
(This might reveal hidden resilience you didn’t know you had.)
  14. What small decision could I make today that would move me 1% closer to healing?
  15. What does resistance to healing feel like in my body and thoughts? Can I sit with it and understand it?

You don’t need to answer all of these at once. Choose one that speaks to your heart today. Let yourself write without judgment, and let the truth rise gently. You’re not alone in this. ❤️

Please note that life coaching is not a substitute for therapy or professional mental health treatment. This coaching process is designed for personal growth, goal setting, and strategy development, and is not intended to address clinical mental health conditions, trauma, or emotional crises. While I integrate trauma-informed approaches to create a safe, empathetic, and supportive environment, it is important to understand that this is not a therapeutic intervention. Trauma-informed practices involve recognizing the impact of trauma on individuals and ensuring the coaching space is safe, respectful, and empowering. If you are experiencing mental health concerns or need trauma-specific support, it is strongly recommended that you seek guidance from a licensed therapist or healthcare provider.
